Dusk stains the air. Autumnal winds beat the streets. A silhouette appears on the rooftops of Mollison Drive.

Pow! Thwack! Aaargh!

It’s the Keen2Go Comic Club!

We trialed this exciting new session towards the end of the summer term and well we couldn’t leave it on a cliff-hanger could we?

We’re back for a new series and looking for comic book and superhero fans to join our ranks. Do you have what it takes?

Flashback: A day in the life of the Comic Club takes us back in time to a session in July.

We had a small group of three brave and talented artists who assembled at the Phoenix Centre in Wallington, armed only with ideas and truly impressive imaginations. Keen2Go’s Alfred was on hand to supply the pens, organise dinner and marvel at the fantastic creations.

We arranged the tables into a circle so we could better discuss our designs, before catching up with the members and talking about their days. Drawing and colouring awesome characters takes a lot of concentration and is not the most social of activities, but we encourage as much communication as possible in developing ideas and giving positive feedback. We look to set the tone from the offset.

Next up we decided on what to eat – the most important item in any editorial meeting. With one member booked in for a swanky dinner at home and the other two split between a supermarket meal deal and a burger, we agreed it best to stay local with the Co-Op and Koleey.

The hard work began, with our three protagonists working away on their individual pieces. We made sure to stop every half an hour or so to share updates and give feedback. Time flew by like Superman himself – a problem all creatives seem to face. With a brief hiatus for dinner, it was soon time to wrap up.

We finished by sharing the work we’d done in the session and ensuring it was all safely tucked away into the members’ Comic Club folders. We left the hideout and returned the team to their bases to resume their civilian identities.

To be continued…

This term we’re looking to build on the success of the trial period to work towards a finished product. We’d like to create the first issue of our very own comic book and hope our members take the lead on storylines and character development.

The Keen2Go story continues with Thursday’s issue and the adventures of the Keen Trippers.
