Here they come – the Sutton Globetrotters – train passes in hand, wide smiles on their faces. It’s Thursday morning and the group are ready for their next adventure.

Whether we’re staying local or venturing further afield, we love getting out and about and enjoying new experiences. Previous trips have seen us hit the beach at Brighton, get royally lost at Hampton Court maze and take a stroll through the park at Greenwich.

For a day in the life of the Keen Trippers, though, we look back at a recent outing to Hyde Park and Buckingham Palace.

We meet at Hackbridge station, set for the 09:18 to Victoria. It is the first week back after a hectic summer programme which, coupled with a family holiday for a regular member, left us with just two trippers. That’s OK, we would never let reduced numbers get in the way of a good day out!

The sun followed us up into London and we made the most of it by heading straight for the park. We had a little wander before hopping aboard a pedalo and setting a course for open water.

Back on dry land, it was time for lunch by the lake. We all had our sandwiches and watched the ducks waddle by. We rested our feet and plotted the rest of the day – next stop Buckingham Palace. And to think, the closest we usually get to royalty is Burger King.

We made our way over to the most famous house in the country and played kings and queens ourselves in the Palace shop. We took a stroll down the Mall and checked out the Victoria Memorial, before having a little sit down by St James’s Park lake.

Then it was home time. We jumped back on the tube to Victoria and on to Hackbridge. Don’t Stop Me Now was firmly stuck on the mind, but we couldn’t work out why. We must have been having such a good time.

Thursday done, we looked ahead to the Keen2Go Ladybirds on Friday.
